The Woodhouse - Recommend - 8/10

After what feels like a year or two of convincing, I finally managed to drag my partner out for a date at The Woodhouse. I have heard many a good thing from friends and family and as a lover of smokey flavours and steak, this seemed to be a perfect fit!

We started the evening off with the Wagyu Brisket, which was soft and delicate. It has little chips too, in cubes! And the light aioli was lovely. Albeit a little dry.

We then moved onto the steaks, I had the Sher Wagyu Rump with triple cooked chips, and a gorgeous salad. My partner had the Sher Wagyu Rostbiff with the mash and vegetables. At first, I asked the lovely server what the difference was between the 'Sher Wagyu' and the 'Everything Wagyu' other than price. She couldn't actually answer me, saying she'd need a science chart to explain it. I found this to be a little odd.

My meal was delicious but was lacking a key component - Smokey ness. When you're known for wood fired steaks I expected the smokey flavours to be quite kicking but was unfortunately left quite wanting. They were delicious of course, but for $60 a steak, I expect to be blown out of the water.

We didn't do dessert, and that was because we had started to feel very out of place and uncomfortable. The Woodhouse goes out of its way to feel upper class, but it didn't feel right. It felt fabricated. The old fluoro style lights sitting behind stained glass 'skylights' didn't help. The food is wonderful but not exceptional for its price. I felt the value wasn't really there.

My Vote: If you have the spare cash for a pricey night out and aren't too concerned about good value for money, this place is lovely. The wait staff are on-point and it is worth a trip at least once. I don't think I will return, however as Value means a lot to me. 8/10
