Over the years, I have dined at the Foundry many a time. While they are trying to shed the Pub atmosphere I can't say I'm ever going to forget how it felt when it was just another pub with a huge function room out the back. But, on to recent times!
I had the steak, veg and chips with garlic butter. My friend had the parma with chips. We shared a sticky date with butterscotch sauce for dessert.
First off, they set us up in a corner near a drafty door, wayyy down the end of the bar. Bad form. The food was.. uneventful. I know I know, we DID get the most boring meals on the menu, but the taste wasn't exceptional. The Parma was standard. My steak was a little overcooked, the veggies were ok. The garlic butter was soft and gooey (not.. in a good way) and barely garlic flavoured at all, which was a shame as they gave me nearly half a cup of it. The chips however, were delish! And they should not be the hero of a plate haha.
Dessert was rather nice. The sticky date was neither sticky nor date-y. But the butterscotch sauce was lovely! we had ice cream with it which set it off nicely. And they brought two spoons from the offset, clever thinking! Personally I found the prices to be overpriced for the quality of cooking. Regardless of what they're trying to do with the venue, it's still pub food, but they're asking for restaurant prices. And that doesn't cut it in my eyes!
My Vote: All in all a very average yet expensive night out. I recommend if you're nearby already and don't mind paying a little extra for a simple yet still good, dish. Just always go for chips! 5/10
