I have dined many a time at GPO and each time I do, I want to do so more.
The food has never left me wanting, And is a pleasant surprise each time I order something new. The most recent and the shining stars so far in my memory, are the Salt and Pepper Calamari and the Chicken and Chorizo Paella.
The paella is delicately flavoured and not overpowering. It doesn't punch you in the mouth as much as I would like but combined with the peas that pop and the generous chunks of chicken it is a lovely dish. The charred chorizo on top adds a smoky flavour I’ve never experienced from chorizo before. I wish there was more of it. A perfect meal for a cold wintry night.
The calamari is my all time hero. I get it every time I dine. It's soft and packed full of flavour. The squid itself is supple and not mushy, the lime aioli delicious and that jamon dust... Amazing. I only wish I could fit more in my mouth at once.
The cocktails are nice though expensive. I usually have a Pimm's Cup though much to my dismay they've changed its recipe. Much less lime, mint and strawberries this round. I do hope they go back to the fruity gingery cup I used to love.
The service is great though the staff seem a bit stretched thin. Sometimes you have to really flag one down to get attention.
I have to say the desserts so far have looked very modern but lacked flavour and wow factor I expect with the prices that accompany them.
My vote: Good food, make sure you book in on Valentines it's a lovely experience. Will be back, with bells on! 9/10
